Tim McKee
Tim
McKee found himself immersed in what the Guinness Book of World Records
termed “the closest race in the history of sports,” when he and
Sweden’s Gunnar Larson both finished the 400m IM in 4:31.98 at the 1972
Olympic Games in Munich. After eight long minutes of consultation,
officials named Larson the Gold Medalist by two one-thousands of a
second ... ten times faster than the blink of an eye. Tim brought home a
Silver which, by today's standards, would be considered a tie for the
Gold. That was not his sole hardware, as McKee earned another Silver in
the 200m IM. Four years later in the Montreal Summer Olympic Games, Tim
did it again: He was awarded Silver in the 400m IM. As the former holder
of six back and IM American Records, McKee attended the University of
FL. Today he works as a Miami Beach Safety Officer and has proudly
participated in 16 SAA events.
