Since 1987, over 150 Olympians have donated their time to support the SAA cause. These Olympians have attended our swims and special events generating awareness and raising donations for our beneficiaries. Hear in their own words why they continue to volunteer their time with Swim Across America every year.
''Cancer is something I know one day we can beat.'' - Rowdy Gaines, 1980, 1984 Olympian
''Here is something that I could do as a swimmer that I could give back and have some sort of immediate effect on people. I think a lot of the Olympic swimmers found their community at Swim Across America. They found that they could do something with their swimming background and make a difference. And that's why we had a lot of early success, you know, with Steve Lundquist and Rowdy Gaines and other great Olympians being a part of this.'' - Craig Beardsley, 1980 Olympian
“I think cancer is one of those things that so many people have had experiences with—losing family members or loved ones or friends—and it really makes you feel powerless. Becoming involved in Swim Across America is something that gives you a feeling of being able to do something, to help people, to help people fight.” - Kristy Kowal, 2000 Olympian
Beautiful venues, amazing volunteers and organizers, and so many inspirational stories from the participants keep me coming back - and all for a great cause!" - Eric Wunderlich, 1996 Olympian
