Welcome to Team Keren at SAA!
My WHY is Keren Clay. Keren is a friend, a daughter, a sister, a high schooler, a swimmer, a writer, an artist, and a ray of sunshine. She is also a fierce warrior and a 2-time cancer fighter, resulting in a below-the-knee amputation for rhabomyosarcoma in 2018 and a partial scapulectomy (removal of half of her shoulder blade) for osteosarcoma in 2022. Keren is 16.
I've known Keren since 1st grade - a brilliant, kind, flaxen-haired joy - watching her run the mile at Field Day - her strong, long, effortless stride pulling her ahead of all the boys. I remember leaning over to her Mom, remarking on her amazing athleticism. It has been a long road to reach diagnosis and treatment, but Keren and her family have faced it head on and moved through it with grace, tenacity, and an indomitable spirit. “Quit” does not exist in the Clay family dictionary.
Please join me in supporting essential funding for cancer research. Join me in supporting Keren and all those who fight the good fight. Because that fight is never over.
Last year, I swam alongside Keren, as she conquered the ½ mile open water swim, completely unassisted and with gas left in the tank, thanks to her dedication to preparation and training. This year she has set her sights on the 1-mile swim. Amazing!
I am excited to continue my role as Swim Angel Coordinator, pairing experienced open water swimmers with participants who might need some support in the open water as they take on a new challenge.
If you are able, please support me by making a gift. The researchers we are funding are in our community - Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Cancer Center – and are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America early-stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials that can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives. Thank you for helping make an impact in the fight to find a CURE!
