Why are you swimming in Lake Lanier?!? Don't you know?!?
Well, I'm swimming for charity in part (and because our swim coach thought it'd be a good idea). Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care.
And yes ... as I typically hear from every other person, "Don't you know Lake Lanier is haunted?" "Aren't you scared?"
Scared? Well, open water swimming is a bit different since you can't see the bottom ... or anything for that matter in a Georgia lake. Haunted? Yeah, not sure I buy that one.
What's scarier?!? The obvious answer is cancer. And especially when it is a child. From my side, I don't treat cancer of course, but I have had a number of kids/families who have been affected. And there is certainly ongoing anxiety, the lingering affects of treatment, and waiting on "that next scan" to see if you can breathe again.
I'll take Lake Lanier any day; but I'm also happy to help donate myself, my money, and a morning long swim to help the cause.
If you want to help, please consider donating to help our team reach our goal.
Thank you for helping me #MakeWavesToFightCancer.
