Welcome to Daisy's SAA personal page!
Hello to friends and supporters!!!
It’s 2024 and Year 15! It’s hard to believe that it was 1-1⁄2 decades ago when I committed to swim for this great cause. I swam the 3 Mile Open Course at the mouth of the Bay for many of these 15 years but I only do between 1-2 miles now. Awareness & support are key to the Swim Across America Research labs all over the US. The local SAA Lab is the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore where significant advancements in immunotherapy are being made. Cancer touches us all as I, sadly, am always having to add more friends to my list each year. This past weekend, I swam a solo open water swim the Upper Delaware in Mill Rift Pennsylvania as I will be away on the annual mid-September event this year.
Each year I highlight a few of our friends. Do know that those of you that I have highlighted in the past years remain in my heart and prayers even though you may not be noted in this year's page. I still swim for you and for your continued well-being. Sadly, I also swim in memory of those loved ones we have lost.
This past winter, our good friend Ken Zuber, lost his battle against cancer with Vicki and Wilson by his side. His battle was a valiant one. We miss him.
My dear friend from Maharam, Kristin Whiteford, was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DCBCL) which is a type of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma… a blood cancer. Kristin’s been able to continue to work while still receiving treatments. Her prognosis is good and her positive attitude is remarkable and will serve her well! Anyone who knows Kristin knows she'll still walk 12K steps in the hospital hallways if she’s up for it!
Recently, an old friend Kay Dixon passed away after the cancer returned, Kay was clearly beloved by her boys, family, friends and work colleagues at the Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale PA. The stories at her memorial service were so loving and heartfelt.
Adam's son, Adam Melkon Debus, continues to take one day at a time as his battles continue.
I admire each one of these amazing friends and add them to the list of all of those whom I have honored over the last 15 years.
Thank you for your generous consideration… If you can support this effort to help this great cause, I would be grateful as each gift,of any size, makes a difference…Just click on the link to donate on this site.
