Welcome to My Personal Page
2024 SAA Boston Harbor Swim is right around the corner! I am participating in another swim to raise money for cancer research. I will be swimming with the Goldman Sachs team, participating in the 2 mile ocean swim off castle Island.
I started participating in this event 9 years ago, because my friend, former University of Maine teammate and Masters Swimmer, Ed Colbert couldn't. Ed had been a participant in this event over 10 years and tried to get me to participate a few times! Its a great cause, but I figured donating was just as good, and I wouldn't have to put up with the agony of the cold, dirty waters of Boston Harbor. Swim Across America was one of ED's many charitable events he participated in. In July of 2015, Ed was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a very invasive form of brain cancer. Ed, unfortunately lost his battle in October of 2016, but his strength and positive attitude was inspirational for his children, family and friends that supported him.
Just recently we also lost Ed's brother Stephen Colbert, fellow swimmer and SAA participant. Stephen was a cancer survivor for 20+ years. We will miss them both.
Since I've started participating in the Boston Swim, other close friends have had to face similar battles. Chuck Martin, another former Maine teammate continues his battle with multiple myeloma and his ongoing maintenance program. Tom Gunning recently lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Kelly, Kristen, and Deb, all having to make hard life choices with breast cancer.
This year as I swim, I will continue to swim for Ed , Stephen, and Tom, as well as other close friends, parents, and children who have had their lives impacted by this terrible disease. In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the Boston Harbor Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as I can. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity!
