My name is Karlin Smith and I am a rising Junior at Charlotte Latin School. I swim year round for SwimMAC Carolina and on the Latin Swim team in the winter. I am very excited to be a part of the Swim Across America Junior Advisory Board for my second year to guide the swimmers of Charlotte and make waves in the fight with cancer. Last year, I was honored to be a part of the Junior Advisory Board. I was a part of the social media team and had so much fun creating engaging content and connecting with the community of Charlotte. I also swam in the event last year and had the biggest smile on my face crossing the finish line with my friends. Swim Across America is an incredible organization that hosts charity swims and collects donations to raise money for innovative cancer research that will lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. 

Why do I swim? I swim for my two grandmothers who both fought breast cancer. Fortunately, neither had to go through chemo treatments. The key was early diagnosis. Organizations like Swim Across America have raised money to develop advanced technology to catch cancer early on and to protect the people we love the most, like my grandmothers.
