Swim Across America Chicago- Open Water Swim to Fight Cancer 2024! 08.03.24/Sat.
Hey there! After relocating from Nantucket Island, MA to Chicago during the Covid-19 pandemic, I'm thrilled to announce that I will be participating in my first swim in Chicago. On Saturday, August 3, 2024, I'll be joining a group swim in beautiful Lake Michigan at Ohio Street Beach next to Navy Pier. The open water swim starts at about 7:40 am and is part of the SAA Open Water Swim Chicago 2024, an event organized by Swim Across America to raise funds for cancer research at RUSH University Medical Center.
I swam for seven years as a member of the Swim Across America Swim Nantucket/Team PASCON (Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket) starting in 2013, mainly participating in their open water swim at Jetties Beach. I have been swimming in honor of my late mother, Carolyn Niedringhaus Weld, who passed away in 2014 from lung cancer. Now, I am looking forward to supporting the cancer program at RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago.
Proceeds from the swim will contribute to early-stage research and clinical trials for various cancer types at the Swim Across America Lab at RUSH-- "cancer research and leading-edge patient care at RUSH."
Established in 1987, Swim Across America organizes charity swims with the sole purpose of raising funds for groundbreaking cancer research. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to support the next generation of leaders in oncology and cancer care.
I joined Swim Across America because I believe in their mission and want to help bring hope to more families. If you are able, please support me by making a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal.
