I am swimming in remembrance of my grandmother, Viola Makela. She lost her battle with cancer in December 1990. Viola had cancer in her hard and soft palate. After the mass was removed, she had to be fed with a feeding tube and could no longer speak clearly. She was able to say a few words, mostly asking Jesus to take her home, she didn't want to go on like that anymore. I have known several people with just as many forms of cancer, but my hope is that one day we will be able to make cancer a disease of the past.
