Welcome to Spencer's GET BACK IN THE WATER page
Since moving to Detroit, away from my swim family at Rumsey that drove me to be in the water 2-3 times a week, I’ve fallen out of habit doing something I love: swimming. This New Year I committed to spending the first half of the year swimming at least once a week and competing in an open water swim by end of summer. While family and work commitments got me off track in April and May, I have done my best to get back in swimming shape and am swimming the Motor City Mile charity swim to raise funds for cancer research.
Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care.
I joined Swim Across America because I believe in their mission and want to help give more families hope. If you are able, please support me by making a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal.
As so many of you know, I was raised around cancer with Meme’s full-time job as an oncology social worker leading CARTI’s programs for pediatric patients and survivors, adult patients and survivors and their families. Mom supported that work through CARTI’s weekend retreats and CARTI Kids programming that towed me along, seeing the brutality cancer takes on people and families but also the beautiful resilience that comes from the human spirit to fight these evil diseases.
That resilience of patients, survivors and their families is what drives my ambition and spirit today in all that I do. Please support the amazing work oncologists, social workers, therapists, and the full team do to support all of our loved ones battling cancer!
Thank you for helping me #MakeWavesToFightCancer.
