Help Mary Make Waves to Fight Cancer!
In the past 2 years, my immediate and extended family and friends have been hit hard by cancer. I lost two wonderful uncles - Frank Crescenzo and Larry Penny; a step-grandfather (in law) - Jack Feinstein; and a dear family friend - Declan Redfern. All taken from this world with too many years left to give. And while these are my sad stories, there were simultaneously some positive stories. My aunt (Tina Fuchs) and cousin (Erin Campbell) both tackled and overcame breast cancer! All of these cancer stories in just one brief snapshot of one person's life. Going back beyond 2022, it would be impossible to document all the names of my family and friends impacted by cancer.
I joined Swim Across America because I believe in their mission and want to help give more families hope. While swimming 3 miles is not going to be fun, it's nothing compared to a battle against cancer. Participating in this event is my small way of having an impact and getting these stories out there. Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care. Specifically for the Fairfield County CT event where I am participating, donations go to the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy in Stamford, CT. ACGT is the only nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to funding innovative scientists working to harness the power of cell and gene therapy to transform how cancer is treated.
If you are able, please support me and this wonderful cause by making a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal. Thank you for helping me #MakeWavesToFightCancer. If you live local to Fairfield County, feel free to join me in person (I love a good cheer squad) or consider volunteering at the event!
