Hi everyone, My name is Will Conrad and on June 29th I will be swimming 3 miles in the Long Island Sound with Swim Across America. Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next generation of pioneers in oncology and cancer-support care. 

I am swimming because the advances in cancer research have had a profoundly positive impact on our family. In the Spring of 2019, my mother Sarah, “Sare” as we call her, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The cancer had spread throughout her body and immediate, invasive action was required. The news was completely shocking. Sare is the picture of health and a pillar in our community. She swims or walks every single day, and she was a public-school teacher in our hometown for over 25 years. Through treatment, surgery, and an amazing medical team, she has been in remission for over 4 years and hopefully many years to come. 

Our team was created as proof that fundraising for cancer research works. Thanks to the medical community and advances in research, Sare has been able to attend weddings, spend time with her 6 grandchildren, travel across the world, and still manage to swim almost every day!
