Swim Across America 2024
Why Swim Across America?
Reflecting on my journey with Swim Across America, I am reminded of the reasons that drew me to this remarkable organization and the courageous individuals I've known who have battled cancer.
Tragically, my involvement with Swim Across America took on a deeply personal significance when my beloved mother, Patricia Richardson, succumbed to cancer in October 1, 2023, just months after my swim in June. Cancer's stealth and ferocity have only strengthened my resolve to honor her memory and continue my participation in this cause.
My initial connection with Swim Across America dates back to 1988 when, as a high school YMCA swimmer, I had the privilege of being coached by Olympian Craig Beardsley. His dedication to swimming and his tireless fundraising efforts for Swim Across America have been a source of inspiration. Similarly, my college coach, John O'Neil, has been a fervent supporter of the organization in the Rhode Island area, showcasing its impactful work.
Swimming has always been a passion of mine, both in pools and open water. This year marks is my second time contributing to this event as a swimmer, and cannot wait for June 8th.
I am also swimming in honor of my friend Stefanie Whitmire, my workout partner and a cancer survivor, whose resilience and strength have taught me so much.
Additionally, I swim for my colleague Patty, who is currently battling cancer with grace and fortitude. I hope you will consider supporting me in this endeavor, as every contribution makes a difference.
Swim Across America, established in 1987, has a singular mission: to fund groundbreaking cancer research and treatments through charity swims. To date, the organization has raised over $100 million for cancer research and support services.
I am proud to be part of Swim Across America's mission to bring hope to more families affected by cancer. If you can, please support my fundraising efforts with a donation. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
Thank you for helping me #MakeWavesToFightCancer.
