Founded in 1987, Swim Across America has hosted charity swims with one goal: to raise money for innovative cancer research that would lead to breakthrough treatments and therapies. Since then, Swim Across America has raised over $100M to fund the next .

In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. We all have been touched by this horrible disease. This year I will lead the team as we swim in honor of my father aka “the prez”and all those who fight the good fight every day. Team Prez was created in honor of my dad and continues  to exist to remember him and all those recently diagnosed with cancer.  John Pierce was affectionally nicknamed "The Prez" which prompted Team prez , it was created   in 2021 in support of his fight against cancer. My dad grew up swimming competitively and swam for the Wykagyl Country Club summer swim team as a child and had always had a passion for the sport. As a long time member of Larchmont Shore Club, he watched and cheered on the Swim Across America swimmers for years including his children, and friends as they descended upon the Shore Club beach happily applauding them year after year. When he was diagnosed, I , along with friends and family, wanted to give back in a different way.  After years of having to sit on the sidelines as we watched our father gracefully navigate a challenging diagnosis ultimately causing him to have to fight for his life. I   made a conscious decision that I didn’t want to sit on the sidelines anymore. Creating a team was a way to be able to help give back .  My dad was in the hospital for the 2022 swim and unable to watch at the finish line, however he was so proud to hear of the money raised and humbled by the outpouring of the love and support shown toward Team Prez. As many of you know Despite fighting a courageous battle, he passed away on October 30, 2022. I swim in honor of the prez and all of us who have been touched today and everyday by this terrible disease and  who humbly navigate its impacts daily. We  will continue  to swim and fight the good fight until we finish this race to find a cure.
