One of my favorite annual summer events is the Nantucket Swim Across America (SAA). It's a morning like no other when over 400 people from all walks of life show up at Jetties Beach to celebrate LIFE. This will be the 8th time I've participated in this event. In past years I've done the 1-mile swim, and one year I did a 2x2-mile relay. But this year, I'm taking on the big kahuna - the FOUR-MILER! SAA Nantucket is hoping to raise $700,000, My own personal goal (and fundraising minimum!) is $4,000. I'm reaching out to ask you to help me get there.

Nantucket is an island 30 miles out to sea. For cancer patients, this can present logistical issues for appointments, testing and treatment. I can't imagine riding on a rolling ferry for 2+ hours after an already nausea-producing chemo treatment. Proceeds from SAA Nantucket directly support Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH), Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket (PASCON) and Mass General Cancer Center (MGB) to fund vital services for local and visiting cancer patients, minimizing their need to travel (usually to Boston, on a ferry then by car from Hyannis).  NCH oncology programs enable more Nantucket residents to remain on-island for their cancer care, providing them a compassionate and caring environment.  Through PASCON, patients and families receive important physical, emotional and spiritual care, free of charge, often at a time when travel is impossible. If you've ever had a friend or family member in palliative care, you have learned first-hand how important and compassionate these programs are for both the patient and their family members when a loved one can stay in their own home. And MGB brings world-class oncologists to the island to provide cancer care.
