From lab to sound
Hi guys! I am Lucía, a PhD student at the dos Santos laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Every day, I wake up and I go to lab and I do my little experiments and I wonder if I will ever graduate. But also, every day, I take a step back and think about why I actually do what I do: breast cancer touches everyone’s lives in a way or another. Everyone knows someone who has gone through it. We need to understand how this disease works, and how different life events can affect our risk of developing this disease - for better, or for worse. In our lab, we study the effect that hormone therapies, infections, pregnancy, and more, have in the risk of developing breast cancer. My team has discovered pretty cool stuff so far, but doing science, as absolutely needed as it is, is very, very expensive. Trust me, I am always amazed at how much money is required to properly analyze all of our samples. Any little extra funding helps so much! And I do love swimming, soooo what better way to raise funds for research than cruising through the Glen cove sound!!!!
Anyways, see you out there, thanks for helping fund our research!!!!!! You are the best!!!!!!
