In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. We all eventually feel the effects of this pervasive disease ourselves or on those we love.

I am participating in the 2020 Swim Across America - Rhode Island Charity Event. Normally this annual event is an open water swim on the second Saturday of September at scenic Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the format of this year's event was changed to a "Coast-to-Coast" Virtual Challenge.

Participants will log their swims and/or other activities throughout the summer, and SAA will track Team Rhode Island's mileage. Our virtual route will start in Nantucket, Mass., on June 22nd and travel through each Swim Across America open water event city (21 "stops") for a 7,686-mile, east-to-west journey. We'll then "flip-turn" in Los Angeles and complete the return trip back east, hopefully in time for our virtual SAA-RI celebration on September 12th.
