The River City Masters Group, friends, and family “Team River City” are joining forces again this year for the 5th Richmond Annual Swim Across America (SAA). SAA Richmond raises funds to support cutting-edge cancer research at the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Researchers are currently working on groundbreaking treatment that involves cancer-targeting viruses with a diversity of applications where traditional treatments have failed.

Very exciting to see such wonderful research happening right here in Richmond!
This event is very near and dear to many of our hearts! Several members of our team are swimming to honor survivors, those currently battling cancer, and loved ones that have passed:
George Sushkoff – Honoring his mother who lost her battle to cancer in 2003. Honoring his dear friend Becky Prickett who recently completed treatment. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023. I am happy to report that I am officially in remission as of January 8th, 2024.
John Vivadelli – honoring his sister Angela, a 25-year next door neighbor Pierce Rucker, and a lifelong friend Dave D'Andrea who all passed due to cancer, and Pierce's wife Leslie who is heroically battling cancer.
Erica Burgess – This is year #4 participating in SAA for Erica. She is dedicating this year’s swim to her mother who is a 2-time cancer survivor!
Andy Grayson – honoring his mother who lost her battle to cancer 12 years ago.
Marty Hammer – diagnosed with cancer in 2019, currently cancer free and kicking butt!
Elizabeth Cohen - This is the 4th year that Elizabeth has participated in SAA.
Mason Vaughan - This is my second year helping with Swim Across America Richmond by participating and helping with social media. As someone who has experienced the profound impact of cancer firsthand, losing both of my grandmothers to this devastating disease and witnessing other relatives and friends battle it, I am deeply committed to supporting the Massey Cancer Foundation. This organization is at the forefront of cancer research, patient care, and community outreach, striving to make significant strides in the fight against cancer. By promoting charitable contributions to the Massey Cancer Foundation, I aim to honor the memory of my loved ones and contribute to a future where cancer is no longer a life-threatening diagnosis. Your support can help fund groundbreaking research, provide critical resources to patients and their families, and ultimately save lives.
