This year Swim Across America is celebrating its 19th year of making waves to fight cancer in San Francisco. Nationally, we have raised over $100 million to support cancer research, prevention, and treatment. The accomplishments in medicine are tremendous and significant advances have been made to genetically differentiate cancers and target prevention and treatment.

But the fight is not over. This year alone 1,334,000 cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the US. The statistics are compelling proof of the need to continue devising new approaches to research and treatment. My part of this fight against cancer is in being part of the organizing team and swimming from Little Marina Green to Aquatic Park (1.5 miles through the Bay) every year. The money we raise with this event supports the research at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals in San Francisco and Oakland who are our two beneficiaries.
