Welcome to Tom's Personal Page
I met Ron when he came from Calgary to swim at the U of O. We remained close over the years, of course, it did not hurt that we were married to sisters. He was a great guy, brilliant, adventurous and fun. He conquered mountains and ice climbed waterfalls. A couple of years ago he developed something called myelodysplastic syndrome, which is a leukemia like condition with a terrible prognosis. He battled through chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant but, as this condition is wont to do, he developed Acute Leukemia and died last year. It is in the memory of Ron that I swim, as well as others who have struggled with a cancer diagnosis. In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the Swim Across America community so that, together, we can change that.
If you are able, please support me by making a gift. The researchers we are funding are in our community and are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America early stage funding, they are not able to conduct trials that can lead to breakthroughs that can save lives. Thank you for helping make an impact in the fight to find a cure!
