For three years I have participated in Swim Across America. I participate in the San Francisco Bay swim where we swim 1.5 miles from Marina Green to Aquatic Park in the cold 64 degree water. Something that is interesting about Swim Across America is the range of swimmers it brings together. There were Cal swimmers and even Olympians participating in the event as well as casual swimmers and competitive swimmers like me. 

Swim Across America is a cancer fundraiser that provides funding to local cancer research and clinical trials that would not normally receive many grants or much funding. This became more meaningful to me three years ago when one of my friends from school died from a rare childhood brain cancer. His name was Tadhg and he was the funniest kid in school.
