We started as a group of young swimmers living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some of us swam our first Swim Across America - San Francisco when we were only 9 years old, under the watchful eye of our coach, Mike Keck.
For all of us, open water swimming has become a passion. The tides, the wind, the fog, and in some years even the smoke from not-so-distant wildfires are constantly changing, requiring us to be acutely aware of the environment and our place within it. The cold waters of the Bay keep us alert, and sometimes a seal will pop up to keep us company. Every swim is different, and they are never boring.
Swim Across America - San Francisco gives us an opportunity to combine our love for the water with a way to raise funds for pediatric cancer research at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. We are kids who want to help other kids, and all of our lives have been touched by cancer.
In 2022 our team completed a relay swim across the 21 miles of the English Channel. We practiced for over two years with Coach Mike and swam from Samphire Hoe to Cap Gris Nez in 12 hours 20 minutes. It was an experience we will all cherish forever!
In 2023 our team was the first Junior team to race the Trans Tahoe relay and we started participating in more and more swims across Northern California.
This year sees us with three relay teams: Trans Tahoe, Loch Lomond and another English Channel relay team!
Keck Crew SF continues to evolve and grow.
