Hi Friends and Family!

This year marks the eleventh anniversary of Seattle's Swim Across America, and I have participated as a swimmer and/or volunteer since the beginning. I am excited to be swimming the 1/2 mile race again this year with my middle daughter Karenna. This year, I am swimming on Team Ewan in memory of my daughter Karenna’s good friend and classmate; Ewan died of leukemia just over a year ago. Ewan, your time here was too short and we will always remember you. The money we raise through Swim Across America goes to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

I continue to swim and participate in memory of my brother Brett Stone who died eighteen years ago and was an accomplished NCAA swimmer and my best friend. I swim in honor of Clint Finger, who has battled cancer for six years; you are a true inspiration to me.  I also swim in honor of Susan Lang, who is battling breast cancer; she is a family friend and mother to Karenna's good friend and classmate Allie.  I also swim in honor of cancer survivors RDS, Jody Wilson, Natasha Black, Ilyse Wagner, cousin Ken, and others. My cousin Dan died this past year to cancer.  Additionally, my uncle Marc and swim coach John Walker died a year ago to cancer, and there are so many more family, friends, and neighbors who are remembered. Lastly, I swim in celebration of fourteen years as a cancer survivor. SCCA helped me through one of the most difficult challenges of my life, and I am honored to be able to give back.

In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Specifically, Swim Across America Seattle has raised over $2.5 million since its inception and contributed to the Cellular Therapy Lab and Pancreas Cancer Specialty Clinic. Over 95% of donations raised at the event go directly to SCCA.
