As many of you know, this is the ninth year Bill and I have been a part of Swim Across America St. Louis. We became involved because we had seen so many people in our lives affected by cancer. Then in 2017, this horrible disease touched our family when Bill was diagnosed with Stage 3B Melanoma. After his surgery, he was given a 'watch and wait' order. Luckily the 'wait' was not long and in four months, Bill was started on an immunotherapy regimen which, ironically, was developed with crucial funding from Swim Across America. That's right—he became a recipient of the lifesaving research that has touched so many lives because of Swim Across America!

In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the Swim Across America community so that, together, we can change that. To date, Swim Across America St. Louis has raised over $1.7 million dollars in the fight against cancer. This money raised here stays here to fund researchers in our community that are the next generation of cancer pioneers. Without Swim Across America's early stage funding they may not be able to conduct trials or research that can lead to breakthroughs that could save lives!
