Throughout my life I have known seven people who had or have cancer. Cancer research is important so people can get the proper treatments and have a full life. Some people may believe chemotherapy and radiation treatments are enough, but there is still too big of a chance that the person will not respond to those types of treatments or the treatments will be difficult for them to manage. My grandmother passed away from brain tumors just over a year ago, a family member is going through successful treatment, a family friend is living with lung cancer, and the others I know have been able to fight their cancer. 

The donations to Swim Across America will fund research into medicine that will fight cancer better and not affect patients in a harmful way.
