My son Evan and I are participating in the Swim Across America "Swim for Melissa" to raise money for cancer research, prevention and treatment. The event honors Melissa Callaghan Rice who was the swim coach at our gym. She coached many of my former students and many of Evan's friends.

I will be swimming 1500 yards and Evan has pledged to swim at least 1500 yards, plus 1 yard for every dollar over $1500 that he raises. I assume if it's an odd amount he will still finish the lap.
