On Friday July 12th, Jeff and I will be participating in the Swim Across America Pool Swim at NYAC in Pelham Manor.  We’re swimming for Cancer Support Team, one of the beneficiaries of Swim Across America Long Island Sound, of which this swim is a part.

Cancer Support Team (CST) has a dedicated team of nurses, case managers and social workers who focus on not only the physical needs of cancer patients but also the huge emotional and financial issues associated with cancer. And they do it all at no cost. They visit patients and families at home, in the infusion center, or anywhere else they want to meet. They aren’t governed by insurance limits and quotas, so they can stay as long as it takes.

In 2023, CST served 1093 patients and their families, conducted 6998 virtual and in-home visits, distributed 283 grants and provided 729 volunteer rides to treatment appointments. They did this with 9 clinical staff members and a raft of committed volunteers.

I know we all give to organizations that are fighting to find a cure for cancer. CST is unique in Westchester and in cancer care in general.  The mission is to enhance the quality of life of cancer patients and their families—to ease the burden of those who are fighting the disease and those who live with and care for them.  We’re swimming to raise money for CST, which is funded in full through grants and donations.
