"In June 2023, Hospice came to my house and we were making arrangements for palliative care. But I never lost hope because of support through the swimming community and Rutemiller's Army. I'm grateful to be here today because of God, Mayo and Science who together gave me an emergency-approved drug that attacks my cancer to the point where it can no longer be found. Today I stand in a state of Very Good Partial Remission (VGPR). Please join me by becoming a member of Rutemiller's Army to raise money for research this November." - Brent Rutemiller
Proceeds will support a cancer research project guided by the Swim Across America Research and Grants Committee.

Brent Rutemiller served as CEO of the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) for five years after more than 30 years in multiple roles with Swimming World Magazine, most recently as publisher. Rutemiller’s retirement from ISHOF came on the heels of his courageous battle with cancer, which is currently in a state of very good partial remission.
"In June of 2023, Hospice came to my house and we were making arrangements for palliative care.
Over the past two years, all my treatments failed to conquer the Multiple Myeloma Cancer circulating in my blood. I went through 2 stem cell transplants, chemotherapy, multiple drugs, cataract, brain, and heart surgery. Along the way I lost my eyesight, hearing, smell, taste, feeling in my face, chin, right leg, and toes.
Please join me by becoming a member of Rutemiller's Army to raise money for research.
Thank you for helping me #MakeWavesToFightCancer." - Brent Rutemiller
